Fjordenhus is the re-imagining of a nearly 70-year old cabin in the mountains of Ojai, California. Retaining the original footprint and layout, the owners, heavily inspired by their trips to the Nordic region (and marriage in Stockholm) sought to update the cabin into a playful take on the summerhouses that dot the islands and countryside of Sweden, yet is still practical for California. A classic and simple architectural form, clad in fire-treated thermally modified Arbor Wood, when coupled with a stone hardscape and succulents mitigates fire risk. Bright and colorful interiors add a sense of playfulness and whimsy; seeking to create something unique and disappointed in local options for Nordic-inspired interiors, the owners built much of it themselves using materials such as Baltic Birch, european Oak, and Marmoleum, to bring a soft, organic feel inside.
